This site provides information, not medical advice

Everything published on Fit & Well is general educational information. It is written for a wide readership and it cannot account for your age, your history, your medications, your test results or anything else that makes your situation yours.

Nothing here is a diagnosis, a prescription, a treatment plan or a substitute for professional care. Reading an article about a condition is not the same as being assessed for it, and the resemblance between what you read and what you are experiencing is not evidence of anything.

We are not clinicians

Fit & Well is produced by writers and researchers, not by doctors, dietitians or physiotherapists. We read national and international guidance carefully and represent it as accurately as we can. That is a different thing from clinical training, and we do not want anyone mistaking one for the other. Our Editorial Policy sets out exactly how we work.

No practitioner and patient relationship

Reading this site, subscribing to the newsletter, or emailing us does not create a practitioner and patient relationship of any kind. We cannot and will not answer personal medical questions, interpret your test results, or advise on your specific case, and you should not send us confidential health information.

Always speak to a qualified professional

Speak to a doctor or an appropriately qualified professional before you act on anything you read here, and particularly before you:

  • Start a new exercise programme, especially if you have been inactive, are pregnant, or have a heart, joint or respiratory condition.
  • Make a substantial change to your diet, or begin any form of fasting or restriction.
  • Begin, stop or change the dose of any supplement.
  • Act on a symptom you are worried about.
Never change prescribed medication because of something you read on this site. That includes stopping it, reducing it, spacing it differently or adding something alongside it. Any change to a prescription is a conversation with the person who wrote it.

Results vary, and averages are not promises

Where we describe what research has found, we are describing averages across groups of people under study conditions. Individual responses to diet, exercise and any other intervention vary widely. Nothing on this site is a promise of a particular outcome, and any timeframe we mention is a description of what was observed, not a guarantee of what you will experience.

Supplements are not harmless by default

Supplements can interact with prescribed medication, can be harmful above certain doses, and are less tightly regulated than medicines. Where we discuss a supplement we describe what the evidence shows, including upper limits. That is not a recommendation that you take it. Check with a doctor or pharmacist first, particularly if you take any prescribed medication.

Some readers should take extra care

If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, if the information concerns a child, if you are managing a chronic condition such as diabetes, kidney disease, thyroid disease or heart disease, or if you have a history of disordered eating, please treat everything here as background reading only and take your questions to a professional who knows your case.

Mental health content

Our mental health articles are written to help readers understand conditions and know where to look for support. They are not therapy, not crisis support, and not a route to a diagnosis. If you are struggling, please speak to a qualified professional or call Tele-MANAS on 14416.

Links to other sites

We link to external sources so you can check our work. We do not control those sites and we are not responsible for their content, their accuracy or their privacy practices. A link is a citation, not an endorsement.

Products and reviews

Where we assess a product, we are giving an editorial opinion, not clinical guidance. No product mentioned on this site is presented as able to diagnose, treat, cure or prevent any disease. Commercial relationships, where they exist, are disclosed on the article itself and are set out in our Editorial Policy.

Limitation of liability

Fit & Well is provided on an as is basis. To the fullest extent permitted by applicable law, we accept no liability for any loss, injury or damage arising from reliance on information published here. You remain responsible for decisions you take about your own health.

Telling us about a problem

If you believe something on this site is inaccurate or unsafe, please tell us at fit@fitandwell.in. We take that seriously and we will act on it.
